Allie Olson Monarch Jacket

Buy the Monarch Jacket sewing pattern from Allie Olson. The Monarch Jacket is a boxy jacket designed for thick stable knits like ponte and scuba. This slightly cropped cardigan-style jacket has wrist-length raglan sleeves and a bomber-inspired collar. Optional snaps provide closure at the centre front. The Monarch Jacket has several inches of positive ease through the bodice and is fitted through the lower sleeve. The D-cup version of the pattern has bust darts, while the B-cup version does not.

Suggested fabrics: The Monarch Jacket should be sewn using stable knit fabrics with at least 20% stretch. The collar of the Monarch Jacket should be sewn using a knit fabric with at least 40% stretch. Ribbing can be used for the collar if desired. Ponte, French terry, double knit, stretch fleece, sherpa, neoprene, and scuba are suitable for the Monarch Jacket. Fabrics weighing 9-14 oz/yd² are recommended.

Fabric requirements: Additional fabric may be required for directional prints or print matching. Most rayon-based ponte fabrics shrink considerably (up to 15% in both directions) when washed. Please consider this when buying fabric for the Monarch Jacket.

Sizes 0 – 18 / B cup

Because the waistband is cut as one continuous piece, sizes 12 and up will not fit onto 45" wide fabric.

54″ (138 cm) or wider fabric: 2 1/4 - 2 3/4 yd (2.1 - 2.5 m).

45″ (115 cm) wide fabric (sizes 0-10 only): 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 yd (2.1 - 2.3 m).

Sizes 12 – 30 / D cup

Only fabrics measuring 54" or wider are suitable for this size range.

54"-60" (137-152 cm) wide fabric: 2 3/4 - 3 1/4 yd (2.5 - 3.0 m).

Sizing: US 0 – 18 / B cup and US 12 – 30 / D cup (approx. UK 8 – 18/20 and UK 14 – 32, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size charts and finished garment measurements.

This design is drafted for a height of 5'6" (167.6 cm). The designer recommends choosing a size based on your bust measurements and grading at the waist and/or hips as necessary.

Notions: 1/2 yd (0.5 m) of lightweight interfacing (woven or knit); 1/2"-5/8" (1.3-1.6 cm) heavy duty snaps or buttons (optional), 3 for sizes 0-18/B cup or 5 for sizes 12-30/D cup.
